Sunflower Kennels
Carlton and my love of
standard poodles began in 1986 with the purchase of our beloved Casey. Casey had
some health issues and we felt a companion for her would be a good idea for all
of us. It was not long after we got our second standard that we got our third
and then fourth standard. That is how it all started.
Our first show dog was Ch. Trelarken's So In the Know. We were blessed to obtain
her from Wendy Slowe. Sophie is very "fancy" and has proved to be a wonderful
foundation bitch. Wendy suggested that we breed her to Ch.Prestige I'll Do
Anything. With much reluctance because of my inexperience in breeding and
placing puppies we bred them in 2002. The first litter was so nice that we
repeated the breeding in 2003. As it turns out we were so very lucky to place
our babies in wonderful homes which was the most important thing to us. We also
have been extremely lucky to be blessed with good health of these babies for the
most part. Of the fifteen babies that Sophie had in total we have only lost one
at the age of five. Out of those fifteen babies we have eight with their
confirmation championship. There are several others that could have easily
obtained a championship, one being my Rose who was retired early after Tina
retired. In the last several years we have co-owned three of Sophie's
grandchildren sired by Ch. Sunflower's Wild About Harry. The first we partnered
with Diana Childs and Cathy Cushman. The other two soley with Cathy Cushman.
All three of those grandchildren were puppy champions
We have not bred any of our girls simply because we would not breed unless we
wanted to keep a puppy and our house is bulging with our girls and us. We were
lucky to obtain a grandbaby of Sophie's from Wendy Slowe this last summer. She
is co-owned with Cathy Cushman. Lily Pearl is just beginning her show career. We
are committed to breeding her at some time in the future. Our dogs bring much
joy to our lives, we can't imagine living without them.
